The 12th CPS Security Workshop was successfully held from May 18 to 19 at the Maison Glad Hotel in Jeju, with approximately 400 attendees participating both on-site and online. The workshop attracted significant attention as it took place amid growing emphasis on cybersecurity for national critical infrastructure. In this context, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced the ‘Strategic Cybersecurity Cooperation Framework (SCCF)’ during his state visit to the United States in April, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the ROK-U.S. alliance and extending the alliance into cyberspace. The framework aims to enhance information sharing and cooperation between the two countries at a time when cyberattacks targeting national critical infrastructure are surging.

The workshop featured a range of presentations aimed at securing visibility into control system security for national critical infrastructure and identifying effective countermeasures. Prof. Seo Jeong-taek of Gachon University emphasized the importance of power grid control systems, noting that following the announcement of the cooperation framework with the United States, the Presidential Office convened a cybersecurity meeting with the heads of power-related public enterprises and stressed the need for inspections of the Korea Power Exchange’s EMS systems.

Cybersecurity presentations on the maritime and ship sector also drew considerable interest. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is developing maritime ship security guidelines, and security measures are being strengthened as vessels—including naval warships—are increasingly becoming targets of cyberattacks. In this regard, Hanwha Life Insurance delivered a presentation on risk management for cyber threats that may arise in OT (Operational Technology) environments.

The workshop plans to continue expanding cybersecurity research across a wider range of industry sectors going forward.
