The '2023 Maritime and Ship Cybersecurity Workshop' was held on September 22 at Korea University's SK Future Hall, attracting over 200 attendees from the domestic and international shipbuilding and offshore industries. This event, now in its sixth year since its inception in 2018, has established itself as the nation's leading maritime cybersecurity event. It was attended by representatives from civil, public, and military organizations in the maritime cybersecurity field, including the Navy and the Korea Coast Guard, as well as professionals from the shipbuilding, maritime, and information protection industries, academia, and research centers.
Hosted by the BK21 Smart City Security Education and Research Center of the 4th Stage of Korea University and the Korea University Information Protection Institute, the workshop aimed to facilitate networking and knowledge sharing among ministries, organizations, and companies related to maritime and ship cybersecurity. This year, the event saw higher interest than ever before, with more than 200 participants from both overseas and domestic shipbuilding and maritime-related organizations and companies. This increased interest comes ahead of the implementation of cybersecurity regulations by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and maritime cybersecurity measures by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Jo Yong-hyun, CEO of CYTUR (formerly known as DSLab Company), discussed recent trends in cyber attacks on the maritime industry and ships, and presented ship cybersecurity design measures and threat detection technologies.
