Korea University Institute of Information Security hosts the 8th Maritime Cybersecurity Workshop on November 21st, presenting the latest trends and technologies in AI threat response and cybersecurity for global naval and commercial vessel sectors<\/p>\n\n\n\n
[Security News] The Maritime Cybersecurity Workshop will be held on November 21st at Korea University’s Future Convergence Technology Building. Now in its 8th year, the event brings together leading domestic and international experts in the shipbuilding, maritime, and vessel cybersecurity fields to discuss current cybersecurity issues and response strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event is co-hosted by Korea University’s Graduate School of Information Security, the Korea Naval Association, and the Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Research Institute (KOSORI), organized by the Maritime Cybersecurity Research Center at Korea University’s Institute of Information Security, and sponsored by Daeyang Electric, CYTUR, Hanwha Ocean, LIG Nex1, and Rakuten Maritime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year’s program centers on naval vessels, unmanned ships, commercial vessels, K-RMF, and IACS UR E26\/E27, with domestic and international experts sharing technology trends, case studies, and know-how in each area. In particular, security strategies addressing the changes and threat landscape brought about by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the maritime sector will be presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The morning session will discuss naval vessel security \u2014 a key area of focus in K-Defense, which is attracting global attention. This closed session will address cybersecurity measures essential for unmanned force operations and global expansion, with attendance limited to pre-invited government and defense industry officials. Key presentations include: ‘Understanding Risk and Considerations for K-RMF Continuous Monitoring’ by the Defense Security Research Institute; ‘Development Direction of Manned-Unmanned Command and Control Ships and Cybersecurity Recommendations’ by Hanwha Ocean; and ‘The Emergence of Autonomous Unmanned Warships and Corresponding Cyber Attack Response Strategies’ by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The afternoon session is dedicated to understanding global trends and discussing related technologies and case studies in line with the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) cybersecurity regulations mandated since 2024. Topics include: ‘Global Maritime Cybersecurity Trends’ by Rakuten Maritime; ‘Ship Cybersecurity Case Studies’ by AVIKUS; and ‘Analysis of Maritime Cyber Incident Cases’ by CYTUR \u2014 focusing on real-world industry cases, global trends, and technological changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, discussions are expected to cover cybersecurity laws, regulations, and technologies applicable to both naval and commercial vessels, centered on agendas such as the MASS (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships) project and Arctic route development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donghoon Lee, Director of the Maritime Cybersecurity Research Center at Korea University, stated, “Since launching the first domestic maritime cybersecurity event in 2018, we have now reached our 8th year. We have contributed to the advancement and sophistication of domestic ship cybersecurity technology, and our reach has expanded to include exchanges with international experts.” He added, “We look forward to Korea \u2014 already a shipbuilding and maritime powerhouse \u2014 also fulfilling its role as a leader in maritime cybersecurity.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
