DSLab Company develops cybersecurity technology for the shipbuilding and marine industry, leading R&D for smart and autonomous ships

As defense and IT companies such as Lockheed Martin, IBM, and Rolls-Royce, along with the shipbuilding and offshore industries, accelerate the development of unmanned, smart, and autonomous ships, DSLab Company, a startup specializing in maritime cybersecurity, announced that it held a workshop on the 'Cyber Turtle Ship' project at Korea University on Friday, October 21. The workshop saw participation from officials of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, and the Coast Guard.

DSLab Company, the lead research institute for the Maritime Industry Demand Technology Development Project of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is developing the 'Maritime Cyber Threat Intelligence System' in collaboration with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Secureye, and Pioneer Link, alongside the Graduate School of Information Protection at Korea University.

“Recently built ships are equipped with ICT-based systems, and most of these ships are connected to land. According to overseas surveys, about 93% of ships are connected to the Internet, and cyber attacks on onboard systems have increased by more than 900% over the past three years,” explained Dr. Jo.
He emphasized that ships are not only maritime vehicles but also production facilities that refine oil and gas. As both weapon systems and independent units, ships differ significantly from land-based systems and require specialized cybersecurity measures.
